Minmei Madelynne Pryor on the Trail of a Liar

Posted at

...is taking way longer than I had hoped it would. A year ago I announced that it would come out sometime in 2009, now with only two months left to the year this is looking decidedly unlikely.

The reasons for the delay are many and boring, but the series is coming together, and I'm trying my hardest to make it really good. It turns out there was a reason why Herge had a staff of thirty assistants; this shit is hard work!

Dalmatia

Here's a pair of photos from my recent residency in Croatia, ah, those halcyon days of yore...the first is is a pretty bad photo of one of my cat-on-ledger drawings that I did while there. I've done a load of work on paper over the past 2 years and I don't have any of it on the site yet- It needs a big overhaul. The second one was my studio while there, which was in the cool dry storage room of a recently rebuilt house, the location was crucial, because Croatia is really hot in August.

Dalmatia Residency

I'm off to Croatia for the time of my life for a 3 week residency this August with an itinerary of drawing, swimming and (knowing this bunch) too many Sobranie's.

There's a fundraiser for it being hosted by Gallerists/Saints Richard Fogarty and Julie Oakes, with a load of my friends and peers over in Toronto, including: Adam Bellavanance, Osvaldo Ramirez Castillo, Irina Dascalu, Scott Ellis, Nahum Flores, Robert Farmer, Nicholas di Genova, Erik Jerizano, Ashley Johnson, Rita Kamacho, llyana Martinez, Scott McEwan, Ortansa Moraru, Julie Oakes, Jenny Wing Yee Tong, Srdjan Segan, Amanda White, Ivan Yovanovich, Z'otz*

Here's the little blurb:

Art Residency:Dalmatia is a biennial artist residency running approximately three weeks to provide space and facilities for a variety of art projects. With a special focus on opening arewareness and dialogue on the process of reconciliation in an area that has been affected by war devastation, the resdiency’s mandate is to encourage a prolific artistic dialogue between Canadian, Croatian and Serbian communities, to cultivate interactions and connections with the local community through art projects and through engaging local resources, services and businesses.

The residency venue is a century old, recently reconstructed host house located in the historical village of Rudele in the township of Knin, Croatia. Situated near the source of the River Krka, the site lies within a stunning geographic area of physical nature and cultivated land.

Work produced during the residency will be presented, along with a curatorial introduction, and a hard copy calogue in conjunction with The Varley Gallery of Markham, Ontario Canada as well as in public galleries in Serbia and Croatia.

Goya Residency-

Posted at

I'm very excited, because I'm going to go do nothing else but draw Goya in the Prado for a week in May. On the 2nd of May I'll be looking at the Second of May, which is neither meaningful or interesting, but Goya is my very favorite, so it will be great.

With heartfelt thanks to my sponsors at the Papua New Guinea society for the Advancement of Cultural Studies that have generously provided funding for this residency. (Special thanks goes to Ynigo Ortiz de Retez- You're the best, man!)

I just did a little interview with Brickface Press. It was fun. You can pick a copy up if you live in Leeds or Liverpool, or you can just imagine the sort of things I might say.

Drawing 2009 Biennial

Posted at

The lovable and venerable Drawing Room is hosting one of it's fundraisers, and I'm showing a drawing there. It's not pictured, because I haven't drawn it yet, because they want it on their own special paper.... but there is reason to believe that it will end up looking something like the drawing pictured here, which I did draw (on my own special paper).

All the best people donate, Charles Avery, The Chapman's, Fiona Banner, me, Julian Opie and others.
